A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Ghana National Chamber of Pharmacy and LMI Holding, mangers of Dawa City Limited for the construction of a Pharma- enclave.

This MOU comes as a result of the the recent taunting from the president of Ghana, to the Pharmaceutical industry stakeholders on the need to be self sufficient with regards to the manufacturing of medicines in Ghana.

The MOU also seeks to attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3  which seeks the well-being of all ages and  provide vaccines for both communicable and non-communicable diseases which would in turn position the pharmaceutical sector as a strong force in the sub - region.

In a speech read by the Mr. Harrison K. Abuatiate of the Ghana National Chamber of Pharmacy, he stated that the chamber is committed to make Ghana the pharmaceutical hub of Africa.

He added that the module encompasses establishment of a pharmaceutical enclave in collaboration with the state and non state actors, donors,  and other stake holders.

He then said that the MOU is necessary because it would ensure that Ghana produces 70 to 80 percent of medicines that we  consume locally.

He also said the Ghana National Chamber of Pharmacy would establish a Special Purpose Vehicle ( SPV ) for investing at the enclave and  would be open to members of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Council, the Pharmaceutical Managers Association of Ghana and interested partners.

He promised that the chamber would commence engagements with the relevant authorities to market the enclave to attract foreign and local investors to the enclave.

He then employed stakeholders to lace up their boots for the task ahead.
