‘NAPO’ Shows Maturity During Vetting over Comments on JM & Prof. Opoku Agyemang

The Minister-Designate for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is also the MP for Manhyia South, took his turn yesterday to appear before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee to be vetted for this new role.

In a question, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu and a past Deputy Minister for Education, drew Dr. Prempeh’s attention to comments he made on various media platforms during his tenure pertaining to former President Mahama in respect of the school placement exercise in 2019, as well as other comments pertaining to his immediate predecessor, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang.

In response, Dr. Prempeh explained the context of his comments about Prof. Opoku Agyeman and stressed he did not attack her person. He further indicated that given the opportunity he would not frame his comments in the same language and expressed his apologies to her. Again, with respect to the former President, he expressed his apologies for the remarks he made at the time.

Dr. Prempeh’s comments and posture has earned him many plaudits across the political divide, with praise for his matured decision to render the necessary apologies regarding his earlier comments.
