Story by Carlos Afanou

Heavy downpour Sunday morning in parts of the country has rendered about 57 residents of Awutu Bontrase homeless in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

The three-hour heavy rainfall submerged a number of houses in the municipality leaving them displaced.

Our reporter Alex Donkoh in an interview with some of the victims expressed worried about the situation and called on the government to come to their aid.

We’ve nowhere to sleep now. All our houses have been submerged with the rain and parts of our roofs have been removed. We plead on the government to come to our aid else we will sleep in a classroom tonight.” They appealed.

Meanwhile the Abrahene of Awutu Bontrase, Nana Kwame Larbi on his part, urged the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya District, Stephen Kwame Quaye to construct bridges and gutters in the area to prevent further flooding and damages in the municipality.

He also appealed to him to liaise with NADMO to ensure that, relief items given to the people are being distributed equally.
