The United Nation Development Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with Minister of Gender has organized a one day dissemination workshop on Ghana Beijing +25 Report at the CLOSAG hall.

Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Chief Director of Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection said Gender equality can never be ignored as it has been accepted as a cross-cutting issue due to its significance in accelerated development.

She added that the Ministry in collaboration with Ministry of Health with support from the UNFPA organized an inter-ministerial conference on Femal Genital Mutilation (FGM) as part of the activities of the campaign on Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa.
This Campaign is to reduce maternal mortality in Africa.

She further stressed that Capacity of Gender Desk officers from Ministries, Departments and Agencies and planning officers from Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies were built on mainstreaming the National Policy  Gender into their development plans to ensure that the rights, interest and special needs of women and girls are integrated into policy formulation and implementation.

The objective of the workshop is to ensure that women are protected under the law in Ghana.

In addition, Dr. Comfort Asare, the Ag. Director for the Department of Gender , in her opening remarks said the Beijing +25 Report gives account of the country's progress in the implementation of Beijing Declaration and Platform for action.

She continued by saying that the Platform for action made comprehensive commitments in critical ereas of concern which includes women and poverty, women and girl's education and training, women and health, human rights of women amongst the others.
