Story by Carlos Afanou

Accra, 14th November 2020, David Dauglas Leadership was launched at Airport View Hotel.

David Dauglas Tengey in delivering his maiden address remembered Isaac Newton, the composer of Amazing Grace, once said " If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." It is in the light of this that we are bringing people together so that the youth of today can stand on the shoulders of giants in our society to see further or achieve their God given talents.

He said as we all know, the biggest challenge facing our generation is the issue of unemployment and lack of purpose in self-identification. This issue has been well articulated in numerous global organizations and forums including the United Nations.

To further demonstrate the commitment and encourage countries to adhere to youth development initiatives, the UN Chief Economist and Assistant Secretary-General For Economic Development (UN DESA) launched The World Youth Report: Youth Social Entrepreneurship and the 2030 Agenda which seeks to contribute to the understanding of how youth social entrepreneurship can both support youth development and help accelerate the implementation of the SDGs across the globe, he said .

Ghana being a member state of the UN has endorsed all declarations pertaining to the betterment of the youth and has developed policies that support the initiative. NABCO, yes Youth in Planting for Food And Jobs etc. remain part of the broad national strategy in advancing the youth course.  Unfortunately, with the teaming number of youth who make about 52% of the total population of the country will not match the limited government created job openings.

Other shortcomings of this job placement exercises remain unsustainable and does not permit the Youth in identifying their purpose, strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This self-realization approach which is missing in the government strategy is the only true tool that we have realized will set the youth sustainably free.

The David Douglas Leadership Forum, in partnership with the john C. Maxwell's Team is here to share, forge partnership and to solicit best practices and workable strategies that will advance the realization of the fuck potentials of the youth and help direct them for the attainment of personal, family, community, national and global goals.

It remains a key objective of the John C. Maxwell Team partner, the David Douglas Leadership Forum, to ensure the realization of the full potential of all youth aged 15 and 35 years of age through decision making, consensus building, policy design, monitoring and evaluation as well as reviews and dissemination in the most efficient, effective and expedient manner with the youth in the " comfortable lead".

He also wish to reiterate the readiness of the forum to build a lasting working relationship with all partners, the media inclusive.

To conclude, the ultimate plan of the forum is to develop nationally mainstreamed education mechanism built on the outcome of this engagement exercise to augment government efforts and chart a new youth self-realization educational agenda as exemplary demonstrated by NADMO in the country's disaster management sector.

He said, finally the takeaway of this engagement is not only to launch our youth leadership, mentorship and coaching programme but to come out with a multi-stakeholders Task Team with GES in the lead to implement a nationwide school based youth leadership strategies that will be term based assessment for early identification, detection and timely placement in technically conducive and youth friendlier facilities. And this is expected to be implemented on case basis not wholesale as the current system appreciates. As Henry Ford said " Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success ".
