G/A: GAMLS declares strike, total shutdown of lab & blood banking services

By Jerry Akornor

Greater Accra Regional Branch of Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists has declared an indefinite strike, total shutdown of laboratory and blood banking services effective today Thursday May 27, 2021.

It follows the failure of the Health Ministry and Management of Komfo Teaching Hospital to withdraw two Clinical Haematologists posted to the facility.

According to them, the refusal of the employer and KATH Management to resolve the matter after racing against time implies that the lab professionals in the region have no alternative than place  embargo on lab services until their long-existing grievances are resolved.

Lab scientists across the country are on strike because they are of the view that the employer and KATH Management have been deliberately dragging their feet when it comes to resolution of the matter of the two posted physicians.

Below is the press release issued by Greater Accra Regional GAMLS :

As a next line of action all members in the Greater Accra Regional Branch are hereby directed that there shall be a TOTAL SHUT DOWN of Medical Laboratory Services and Blood Banking Services in the
