MANAGEMENT DOESN'T IMPOSE PLAYERS ON COACHES- GFA COMMUNICATION DIRECTOR

By Raymond Karvi

Ghana Football Association(GFA) Communication Director, Henry Asante Twum, has debunked rumors suggesting that the management of the Black Stars and the Executive Committee Members of the GFA decide which players are called into the national team.

The Head Coach of the Black Stars Charles Kwablah Akunnor, has named a 30 man squad for the two upcoming friendlies between Morocco and Ivory Coast in June.

The squad have generated a lot of stir on main stream and social media over who deserves to be in the squad and who doesn’t. Some pundits says, base on the these selection, the coach is not in full control of affairs, he is been manipulated by unseen hands at the GFA.

Henry, who spoke on JoyFM’s sportslink, debunks the claims, but alluded to structures that have existed at the GFA for about three decades, where management engage coaches and asks them why they pick certain players over others.

“ Structure, policy, and programmes play important role in whatever we do”

“Systems have it’s own way if dealing with things, there are systems which allows coaches to take 100% decisions and when things go wrong they are fired”.

“In our a structure, it is evidence at any point, before a coach name a squad, he meets management to defend it. It has been so for over three decades, if my memory serves me right. If we feels the system is no more relevant and must be changed, there should be a discussion in that regard”.

“As things stand, the practice remains, that before a coach name a squad for any competition been it one, two or three games, he meet the management committee to defend the squad. Issues are raised, discussings are made, and questions are asked. You cannot have a squad which is 100%”

Meanwhile, some pundits feels the level of manipulations in the various national teams, especially, Black Stars will not help the nation to end 39years AFCON drought.
