Colin Biggers & Paisley (CBP) has welcomed special counsel Philip Atkin to its partnership.

Atkin has been with CBP’s insurance team in Melbourne since 2018. Managing partner Nick Crennan said that Atkin’s promotion is part of the firm’s strategy to continuously expand its professional indemnity practice.

Atkin specialises in insurance and reinsurance, professional indemnity, construction disputes, construction risk insurance, and construction defect disputes involving owners corporations.

He has defended claims against a wide range of professionals, such as real estate agents, mortgage and insurance brokers, and financial services professionals. He regularly acts as a coverage counsel in complex professional indemnity and project and infrastructure claims.

Atkin’s construction insurance practice involves acting for professional indemnity insurers, design and construct contractors and builders, engineers, architects, building owners, and property developers in significant building and construction disputes. He also represents clients in building industry workplace health and safety prosecutions and matters before building compliance and disciplinary boards.

Moreover, he also has expertise in private mediations and court-ordered alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

Atkin is currently listed in the 2022 and 2023 editions of Best Lawyers in Australia for his insurance law expertise.
